It’s time to unwind from the stress of school and soak up the summer months. Whether you have little ones or college-age kids, we all need a bit of downtime from the hectic days of homework and the overloaded schedules of kids’ activities.
As a mom of two teenagers, I’m just as excited for school to be out for the summer as my kids, maybe more! Although I will still be working, to see them relaxed and being creative and responsible on their own thrills me. While they are excited for their upcoming summer travels, they are also looking forward to just being kids this summer. Last summer, they were overscheduled and didn’t get a chance to really enjoy the time off.
When I asked my youngest daughter what activities she wanted to do this summer, she said, “Nothing. I just want to nap every day”. While we all know that’s not going to happen, I could understand her need to just do nothing for a little while.
Both of my girls are signed up for just one activity this summer. Between that activity and doing their normal chores, they should have plenty of time for ‘summer’. There should also be plenty of time for family. For me, I’m looking forward to everything a short Midwest summer has to offer: farmer’s markets, festivals, grilling, biking, tennis, camping, and relaxing on the front porch.
What’s your favorite summer activity?
